Having missed all the epic conditions earlier this week, today was to be
the day. Forecast of F5-4, W-WNW. Started p*$$1ng it down around the Avon
bridge on the M5. Fantastic. Rained really hard all the way down to WSM
where it seemed to be a good F5. About to turn round & head back, the sky
lightened & after 15 mins the rain stopped & the sky cleared. The wind
dropped to around F4 - all the guys who'd already been out on 4.5m sails
were now very underpowered.
I rigged my 6.2m Tush Vulcan on the Goya - about the right size, though
sometimes a little underpowered.
Had a really good day in the end, though I'm not used to taking on waves
that size on starboard! Some of the jumps were less than elegant! Some good
rides coming back, but backside only.
Wind dropped for a while, so I played around trying to tack & heli-tack -
unsuccessfully again. It's easy on the beach!
By now, the sun was shining, the wind picked up again, but the waves were
gone. Just small lumps of mush. Blasted up & down for the last 1/2 hr &
packed up at 16:30 - about 2 1/2 hrs after HW - with a pretty long walk
back to the car! Will I be able to cycle it to the pub tonight???
